Use your creativity to come up with some sort of design for a system that undergoes at least one energy transformation.

Choose from either Option A or Option B:

Option A:

Your assignment is to build a machine that demonstrates a transformation of energy. You can use arts and crafts materials, elastics, even batteries and wires! All your machine has to do, is… DO something.

2. What is atmosphere?

Atmosphere is the layer of air that surrounds the earth.

3. What is Bernoulli’s principle? Explain it.

Bernoulli’s principle states that as air moves around an object, it creates different pressures on that object. The less pressure, the faster the air. The higher pressure, the slower the air.

4. What are the four principles of flight?

Lift, weight, drag, and thrust.

5. What is lift?

When the air pressure below a wing is greater than the air pressure above the wing, the net upward force is called the lift.

6. What is weight?

The force with which a body is attracted to Earth, equal to the product of the object’s mass and the acceleration of gravity.

7. What is thrust?

Thrust is what moves the aircraft forward and also creates air speed

8. What is drag?

Drag is a force that acts against thrust and slows the airplane down. When the thrust is greater than the drag, the plane moves forward. When weight is greater than lift, the plane descends.

Bernoulli’s Principle

Today, we took notes on Bernoulli’s principle. Here is a video to make it easier to understand:



This principle was introduced by Daniel Bernoulli (born in 1700- died in 1782). He believed that airplanes fly because the pressure above the wing is smaller than the pressure below the wing.

People have always perceived that flight was possible from observing birds, but it took thousands of years to actually achieve and there were so many hurdles along the way. Continue reading
